Synopsis[]

Following an attack on a major Soviet oil refinery by Azerbaijani terrorists, Soviet oil reserves are projected to reach critical levels in months. The Politburo decides to invade the Persian Gulf states to acquire oil sources but in order to do so must ensure NATO is not in a position to help repel the Persian campaign. The Soviet Union initiates Operation: Red Storm, the grand invasion of West Germany and the Low Countries accompanied by Operation: Polar Glory, the occupation of Iceland to control the GIUK Gap. The book substantially follows multiple characters throughout the war on multiple fronts. 1st Lieutenant Michael Edwards leads a squad of Marines scouting Russian movements on occupied Iceland, Mikhail Sergetov serves as the Energy Minister, a junior member of the Politburo specializing in energy production and distribution, Robert Toland is an NSA radio analyst stationed in the United Kingdom, Commander Edward Morris captains the USS Pharris and later the USS Reuben James in the North Atlantic theatre, Captain Daniel McCafferty pilots the USS Chicago, and Pavel Alekseyev the deputy commander of the southwestern theatre and later deputy commander in the West German theatre.
